It’s Time To Get Out And BBQ #HormelFamily

May 21, 2012

Finally the weather is beautiful and it’s time to get out and about. I live in Long Island NY, and it has been raining for almost two weeks straight. Luckily the last couple days, the sun has come out and it has been really warm.

It’s the perfect time to get out and have a cook out/BBQ and have fun. This year Mothers Day was our first official cook out at the park.  It’s my favorite thing to do. The beaches here have eating and playing areas walking distance from the beach. So we can eat, play and then walk on the beach.

My husband did all the cooking for this trip, we decided to cook Hot dogs, steak and corn.

The food came out so good. The only thing  hate about cooking at a park is it’s not your own grill, you don’t know what has been on it or in it. The food did come out okay though.  We all had a blast.

Another form of BBQ we love is actual southern BBQ. I had never had it until we moved to the south, but it has become one of my favorites.

So for family night I decided to make Chicken BBQ and  try out Hormel’s BBQ beef. My chicken came out a little plain, It just lists it’s flavor in the crock pot. Luckily we had Hormel’s BBQ beef on hand to eat and everyone loved it.

May is National BBQ month, what will you be barbecuing?  I wanted to make a original recipe, but I am not the best at original. My husband does most of the grilling.

Celebrating The Kentucky Derby #HormelFamily

May 5, 2012

The Kentucky Derby was so exciting this month. I love seeing all the fun hats and people dressing up.

We don’t really celebrate that much, but when we lived in the south it was a constant thing. This year I decided to celebrate with the kids our own style. The kids all drew pictures and we had all the food picked out.

They decided to just decorate Burger King hats, for the occasion. LOL

For food we just did the basics, of Southern BBQ with Potatoes and then we did chips and dip

We chose all Hormel products for our party, besides being great products I had tons of coupons for them. So we went with Lloyds BBQ Beef, and Hormel Chili and Cheese for dip.

I miss being in the south, it always a bigger deal down there. We still had fun with our mini party though.

Spicing Up your Salad With Hormel Foods #HormelFamily

April 19, 2012

I love eating salads with my meals, but I do admit at times they can be just plain and boring.  So while I was at the grocery store I saw some Hormel food items on sale and thought I would try a new salad.

I made a salad with lettuce, carrots, tomatoes and cucumber, then I add a little bit of shredded cheese.

The Hormel Foods I added are Bacon pieces and Hormel Mini Pepperoni, when added to a salad. It is so good!

Definitely a good way to turn a sale into a meal.

Tropicana Trop50 Red Orange

April 18, 2012

delivering the goodness of orange juice with 50 percent less sugar and calories, and no artificial sweeteners.  Found in the chilled aisle, new Trop50 Red Orange juice beverage blends nutritious orange juice with lush red oranges for a refreshingly smooth, delicious taste.

**** This taste very similar to regular Tropicana orange juice, it just seems to have a more tart taste. We all loved it, my kids loved the color most of all, they called it blood orange juice.

Elizabeth Sommer wrote the book “Eat Your Way To Sexy” in the book she notes how important having OJ with your breakfast is. One of the most important meals of the day and the key to weight loss and feeling sexy is a good breakfast every morning.

National Grilled Cheese Day #HormelFamily

April 11, 2012

April 12, 2012 is National Grilled Cheese Day. This year why not spice up your grilled cheese sandwiches.

We received a few Hormel products to help make our grilled cheese sandwiches better. The first sandwich we added double cheese and pepperoni.

We lightly buttered the bread, put the butter side down on frying pan then add cheese. Put some mini pepperoni on the cheese and cover with another piece of cheese, then the other piece of bread. Flip over and wait for cheese to melt.

This has become a favorite of my kids, they are asking for it all the time.

I also tried Grilled Cheese topped with Hormel fully cooked bacon

Just repeat steps above but add bacon instead of pepperoni

The grilled cheese bacon sandwich was really good too, my kids are considering it a breakfast food now since it has bacon on it.

How will you be changing up your grilled cheese sandwich on Nation Grilled Cheese Day?

Hormel Ham is perfect for Easter Dinner #HormelFamily

April 2, 2012

Easter is coming up and every year we always have a nice Turkey dinner. Last Thanksgiving though, no one could even stand Turkey anymore, so now we have decided that for easter we will be cooking a ham. So we have decided to go with a Hormel Cure 81 Ham.

For more than 45 years, the Cure 81 brand on the label has guaranteed that every meal occasion will be perfect. Each Cure 81 ham starts by selecting the best ham and then hand preparing, trimming and inspecting it throughout the process to maintain the highest quality standards. The final result is a moist and tender ham that provides great texture and flavor.

We decided on a oven ready half ham, with brown sugar glaze. We don’t eat much with 3 small kids so that should do.  I can’t wait until Easter dinner, it’s going to be so yummy and fun.

Eating Healthier With Hormel Foods #HormelFamily

March 24, 2012

March is national nutrition month, with this years theme being “Get Your Plate In Shape.” The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics started this campaign to emphasize making good food choices and physical activity. You can find out more about this campaign and resources to help with healthier eating on their website.

I am the primary cooker in my house and make all the grocery decisions. I do try to incorporate a salad, vegetable or fruit with every meal. There are times I let myself give into temptation, making hamburgers and french fries or giving into sugary snacks during the day. It can be stressful taking care of three kids all under the age of 7, so I always have comfort foods on hand.

This month in honor of Natonal Nutrition month, I wanted to try something different. I have not boughten any sugary candies, and limited our in tae of red meats and other sugary treats. I introduced my children to Wholly Guacamole, for a snack, while they did not seen to like it at first. I tried adding just a little sour cream and cheese and the loved it. Since the love pepperoni so much, I had the try the Hormel Turkey pepperoni instead of the regular and they loved it. They almost ate the whole package.

Packing a good school lunch is alway important, and I usually always pack a drink (no fructose corn syrup), a fruit, and a sandwich. my kids are very picky and won’t eat wheat bread, so i have to buy whole grain white bread and without milk. The sandwiches are topped with Hormel Natural choices Turkey and Ham, cheese and lettuce (what my daughter calls salad). Hormel Natural choices deli meats are 100% natural meats with no preservatives.

I really hope to continue this path i’m on to eating right. What is your favorite eat right tip? Is there anything you have given up to eat healthy? Mine would be soda! I have been soda free for 3 months!!

Disclosure: I am Hormel Foods Blogger and received coupons to try out the products. No other compensation was exchanged. All opinions are 100% my own.

A Way To Show You Care

March 22, 2012
A Guest Post By Katie Baldesweiler

It’s always hard to shop for people. Those celebration days come around every year. Whether it’s Christmas, a birthday, a wedding or a baby shower, you find yourself pondering, “What should I get Linda?” or “What gift would Bob like?” I know I spend hours in the stores, walking through aisle after aisle, fingering through the unoriginal products and items. Every shopping trip, I leave empty-handed because I just can’t get behind a purchase. I don’t feel like it’s worth it. So after wasting gas and my time, I am just frustrated and without a gift.

I always thought that do-it-yourself gifting was so thoughtful and meaningful. The Internet offers a great way to browse through cute DIY blogs and websites with information and tutorials on how to make your own presents. But with a 9 to 5 job, it’s hard to find time to put something together like that.

We all know that the way to someones heart is through their stomach. Cliché, but true. I find great joy in baking and cooking for others. I think that says a lot about me as a person, too. It’s easy to see the common trend here; I like to give things to people that are from the heart.

I always found gift baskets to be a such a great concept. I remember the carnival my elementary school had and they raffled off these fabulous gift baskets that every homeroom classroom made. My dad stuffed the cans of a few of the baskets and what do you know, we went home with TWO! We won an “Italian-themed” gift basket full of pasta and spices. And a “bakers-themed” gift basket full of all the supplies you need to start your own bakery.

Feeling sentimental, I scoured the Internet for a place that could help me out with a gift basket and I found http://www.gourmetgiftbaskets.com. With countless themes including “cupcake”, “gardening”, and “spa and pamper” how could you go wrong? I’ve got this site bookmarked for the next time I am stumped and have no clue what to get for my Aunt June.

Silk Fruit And Protein Review And GiveawayClosed

March 10, 2012

Wake up to the great taste of fruit juice plus the nourishing power of protein. Silky-smooth, fruit-luscious and easy to love, Silk Fruit&Protein is marvelous in the morning or awesome in the afternoon.

Silk Fruit and Protein is available in 3 different flavors

  1. Mango Peach-A hint of Exotic juicy mango, sweet peach, and more.
  2. Mixed Berry- A tangy-sweet blend of blueberry, raspberry and more.
  3. Strawberry Banana- A classic blend of creamy banana, strawberry and more.

Silk Fruit and Protein is a good source of protein, vitamin D, vitamin C and calcium. There are 5 grams of protein per serving.

After searching and searching for this product I finally found it at my local ShopRite store. They only had two flavors available, Mixed Berry and Strawberry and Banana.

*** I am really excited to be able to try these. My family has struggled with lactose intolerance for a while. It’s been really hard on the kids not being able to have certain things, the Silk Fruit and Protein can take the place of a normal smoothie. The Strawberry Banana was okay, it tastes more like a banana than anything else. The Mixed Berry I really really like, it’s a blend of all fruits with a smoothie taste.   I really love Silk and the Fruit and Protein is the perfect treat for my family. it’s good for you and of course lactose free, so I don’t have to worry about allergies.
